“freehand revolution!” @ Tottori, 11th – 28th March 2017
— Global “Grass-root Network” and Local “Place-Making”
People of various nationalities and professions who are connected to “Das Japanische Haus” in Leipzig will visit Tottori in March 2017. They will hold a 3-week workshop involving local people and hold talks, create, think and live together.
Though the two cities, Leipzig and Tottori, are quite different in the form of culture, history and scale, both cities have similarities in that people have been active in shaping their own lives and places by themselves and forming a network independent of government or external capital. The aim of the workshop is to inspire people to think and take action toward spreading these local grass-root networks on a global level. Regardless of age, background or occupation, anyone can participate in this event with freehand.

Program
1. Hello, we are “The Japanese House” from Germany!
Sat, March 11th from 18:00 @YAOYA BAR, Shikano
Tue, March 28th from 19:00 @TAMI, Matsuzaki

This video will show you how it works.
2. Urban Egg – Tottori ver.
Sat, March 18th @Shikan (Preparation starts March 13th)
From 14:00 : Easter Egg Workshop @TANAKA House, Shikano
Springtime in Germany is the time for Easter. We will have an egg-making/decolating workshop with instruction from German and Japanese artists which can be enjoyed by children and adults.
From 17:00 : Urban Egg Festival @ Starts from TANAKA House, Shikano
Materials are bamboo and washi. We will then walk around the city with the eggs, placing them and lighting them up at various locations such as roadsides, a shrine, the forest, the riverside and the inside a house. In that way, people can view a familiar city in a different way. The egg is a symbol of the value that spaces in Shikano should have. The potential of those spaces, which are usually routine places for the people in Shikano will be re-visualized thanks to the shining eggs. While we are searching for the places where the urban eggs can be hatched and taking the time to warm them up, new relationships among people and ideas toward to the city will be created.

These are presented in the “Freehand symposium”.
